Interview with Sandy of Sandy Creations

Sandy is an old hat at swapping and hosting! She's got some great stories and experience to share with us. Check her out at her blog and her flickr. And check out what she has to offer in her two etsy shops, vintage and handmade goodies and blog banners.

SwapDex: Tell us a bit about you.

Sandy: 35 years, Toronto Ontario, CANADA, Married, 3 kids, SAHM, altered art/mixed media with vintage items. I also design blog and etsy banners.

SD: How long have you been swapping? How did you first learn about swapping, and what made you decide to start? Do you remember your first one?

S: Been swapping for 2 years. Heard about swaps first through blogger. I decided to start so that I could get cool art made by other people. My first swap was a Sweet & Sinister swap with Artsy Mama.

SD: What is your range of swapping? Do you stick to swaps hosted by people you know or are you likely to swap with anyone, anytime?

S: Anyone, if I have never done a similar swap in the past.

SD: Do you swap with any organized groups like yahoo groups, flickr, groups on swap-bot, other message boards, etc? Why or why not?

S: Other than blogger, I swap through flickr art groups and a private art forum.

SD: What's your favorite swap you've ever been in or hosted?

S: A pinkeep swap though a blog. I liked it because my partner and I became good friends and we loved what we made for each other.

SD: What do you do to make your packages special?

S: Packaging that's unique, little personalized labels and art supplies or treats added in.

SD: Do you have a good story about hosting or participating in a swap?

S: I was in a Mermaid swap through flickr and my partner sent me scrapbooking supplies, jewelry, tons of pictures, transparencies and so on. I felt so spoiled! I hosted a swap where one of the people -that signed- up didn't send her item, and her partner was really talented. I ended up sending her partner some goodies to make it up to her.

SD: What do you think is the most challenging part of hosting a swap? Any advice for someone who is thinking about hosting a swap?

S: Keep communicating -with everyone who joins- by sending reminders and asking them to update you when a package has been sent. Make it fun by opening a flickr group where everyone can post their items sent.

SD: Any exciting plans for the near future? Swaps, projects, new products?

S: Not at the moment, but I may do another blog tutorial where you get access to it for a fee.

Feel free to use any pix and please let me know once the interview has been posted. Thanks girl!
